Who Tells Your Story?

hamilton-musical-broadway-album-2015-billboard-650x_650For the last several weeks, I’ve been listening to the new musical Hamilton fairly often at work, via streaming on the NPR Music app. Or so I thought, anyway. I’d bop my head along through the songs (can’t sing at the office), finishing up at the end of the Revolutionary War, which I thought was the end of the show.

Because of the way the app is set up, there was no track listing — I just listened from beginning to end, and it dawned on me while talking to my colleague Priya about which songs I liked that I didn’t actually know what they were called. So, this weekend I decide to look up the song listing and match the tunes I liked to their titles.

It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like…

Today, here in DC, not so much. The temperature was in the upper 60s and it started to rain shortly after dark — the arrival of which, before 5:00 p.m., was the only seasonally-appropriate aspect of the day.

So, I made Monday festive in my own way: with a gingerbread latte and holiday music on shuffle.

It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like...

Other than the tunes and the beverage, I am utterly unready for Christmas and somewhat daunted by how soon it’s going to be here (why so late, Thanksgiving?) but — in addition to the usual getting ready for the holidays that happens — I’ve decided to make a bloggy advent calendar of sorts. I’m striving for a post a day with a Christmas memory, favorite song, cookie recipe… whatever I can come up with to share the holiday cheer.

(Yes, I realize I’ve posted about five times total this year, but I do really think I can do this. Gotta get back on the wagon.)

I thought I’d start with a video of one of my Christmas favorites, “Santa Claus Is Coming to Town,” performed by Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band.  (Of course.) It’s not the best-quality video, but it is from a show I was at, so it seemed like the right one to share.

Ho! Ho! Ho!
