Host, Ballet, and Cute

Saturday is nearly over and I accomplished almost nothing on my list, but did have a nice, relaxing day. Before I head off to bed with visions of a productive tomorrow, here’s a look back at three beautiful things from the past week:

1. I didn’t really think I was in the mood for hosting even a small party this year, but once my friends started to arrive for the annual cartoon sing-along, I was glad I decided to keep the tradition alive. It was nice to spend a low-key afternoon together amid the holiday rush.

2. On Wednesday, I went to see the Nutcracker for the first time in more years than I can remember. I had forgotten how much I like it, and how Christmassy it makes me feel.

3. I have a kitten that looks like this:

Beautiful, no?

What’s been beautiful in your life this week?

    1. Usually, I help with the parties at school on the last day before break, so me & the kids leave school a little early (when the parties are over). However, this year all of the parties were used as “class bonding” so I stayed away and had to pick everyone up at the end of the day. 10 minutes before the end of the day, the music teachers rolled a piano into the lobby and started plaing carols (duets). As the teachers dismissed their students they came down and added their voices to the music. After 15 minutes, the lobby was jammed with staff, parents, and students singing Christmas carols (think flashmob). What a way to send us all off for the school break! Especially after such a week, something really beautiful.
    2. Christmas cards. They have been pouring in this week. I love getting them and reading them!!! Catching up with dear friends from around the world I don’t get to see nearly enough warms my heart.
    3. Yesterday, the older kids made all of the Christmas cookies. I only pulled trays out of the oven.

1). Finally threading the travel needle one more time (albiet two days late) and escaping the hometown weather to arrive in Houston, where to us northerners 60-70 is WARM!
2). Getting to stay in Eileen & Chris’ BEAUTIFUL new home where an amazing amount of “settling” has taken place in less than a month. Sharing in their Christmas miracle….
3). Last, but certainly not least, spending special Grammy-time with James. I am getting a lot of L.O.V.E. these days 🙂
