The Week that Was

Its been another good week here in Houston. We’ve been to a baptism, had meetings and play dates, music class and swim lessons. We’ve learned more words and phrases (we now say “how are you” even though we don’t actually care about the answer), and how to blow bubbles (we practice in the tubby); we’re getting better at kicking in the pool, and we had fun yesterday watching our little friend.

I think Chris might pay our friends to leave their little girl here for the day more often. I was firing on all cylinders (and both kids took great naps) so I managed to get 9 loads of laundry done (washed, dried, folded AND put away), 2 loads of dishes (empty, load, wash, empty, load, wash), took out the trash, blogged, and I made 15 meat balls for dinner. I also showered and ate lunch. It was crazy. I had to write it all down just so I could remember that for at least one day, I had energy and accomplished much. (Clearly, I don’t often feel that way.)

Over at the new house this week, more brick work got done on the outside – though they ran out so had to wait for 7 more palates to be delivered – and the walls are in, floated, and as of today – textured. Next up trim work and painting. And installation of the last of the doors, so the house will be secured.

From the corner of the kitchen, looking to the family room.

We also had a great visit this afternoon from a college buddy of Chris’s who we haven’t seen in ages, which was a lot of fun. He hadn’t yet met James and they became fast friends.

Lastly, in the hands down best news of the last week, my friend’s daughter Caroline who was airlifted a week ago from the Medical University of South Carolina Children’s Hospital to Texas Children’s Hospital will be going home from the hospital tomorrow. She has had a week of ups and scary downs which have thankfully given way to ups – and she will sleep in her own bed tomorrow. Words can’t express how happy I am for her and her family. Their road is still full of challenges but they will rise to meet them all. I’m in awe and inspired by how they pull together and work as a team, and love and support each other through it all. And thanks to y’all for your prayers for my friends.

Good night everyone. Here’s hoping you had a lovely week, and have a great one coming.

Am I looking out to your back yard, garage door or pantry on left?
