Alaskan Adventure, Day 11: Miracle at Sea

It’s the final day of the cruise, though only our second one spent entirely at sea, in the inner passage between Alaska and British Columbia. Since we struck off from Ketchikan yesterday, two seemingly miraculous things have happened:

1. It got dark. Like actual nighttime dark. It was the first time we’ve seen full darkness since we got to Alaska.

By contrast, this is how dark it was the night before:

2. The sun came out – and stayed out. There have been briefly sunny moments on the trip, but not an entire sunny day. We’ve spent most of it by the pool, though still in long pants and shirts, because the breeze off the water is still rather chilly. As a result, most of my day looked like this:

Not too bad, eh?

Wow. I thought the midnight sun would be all the time during the summer…weird.

I think it is, farther to the north where we started, but since our trip was southbound, we must have cruised out of the area where it happens.
