10 on Tuesday: Which Decade Has the Best Music?

Entirely unrelated to this post, but I'm pretty sure this is my best friend this week.
Entirely unrelated to this post, but I'm pretty sure this is my best friend this week.

I had planned to switch back to doing Carole’s 10 on Tuesday today, but I couldn’t actually think of 10 good things about coming Home from a vacation. (I mean, I’m sure there are 10, but I got a little stuck after “sleep in my own bed” and “eat on my own schedule.”) So, I meandered over to Roots and Rings, and Chelsea’s 10 questions this week were easy-peasy for me to answer, so I went with that instead.

1. Would you rather give up pedicures or flat/curling irons? Tough choice, but if forced, I’d give up the flatiron. I spend half the year with too much humidity to make straightening my hair anything other than an exercise in futility, and besides… my hair looks much better curly than my feet do without a pedi.

2. Does your middle name have a family meaning? It does. It’s my grandmother’s maiden name.

3. Do you like to sneeze? Generally, I suppose so, unless I’m in pain somewhere else – like when I threw out my back earlier this year, sneezing was excruciatingly painful and I did not like it at all!

4. Do you think kids should need to learn cursive? Yes. Eventually, someone is going to invent a tablet that reads handwriting well/accurately and since a pen is faster than a keyboard, we’ll to transition to some form of electronic writing. Best to be prepared and actually know how to write legibly.

5. When you go to the beach for the day, what do you take? Sunscreen, book, beach chair, water, a towel… Probably other stuff I’m not thinking of – it’s been too long since I’ve been to the beach!

6. Which decade had the best music? I think most people always think the music from their teen years is best, and I am no exception: 80s all the way.

7. Are you a good hand-shaker? I think so. No one has ever accused me of either breaking their fingers or being too wimpy, so either people are really polite, or I’m OK.

8. Do you have a go-to meal for when you are at a restaurant and you can’t decide? No. I rarely am hit with indecision at restaurants – something usually jumps right out at me. The fact that I am not a picky eater (no allergies, not a vegetarian, will try almost anything once) makes it pretty easy.

9. Do you have slippers? Yes. Wearing them now, in fact.

10. Are you easily grossed out? Not that easily, though I do occasionally regret watching “Bones” re-runs while I’m having dinner.

As always, feel free to share your answers in the comments!

    1. Would you rather give up pedicures or flat/curling irons? Irons out, which is easy as I never curl or straighten, but love me a pedi.

    2. Does your middle name have a family meaning? I dunno. It’s Marie, which is kinda like Smith to me.

    3. Do you like to sneeze? Yes. Except after the c-section.

    4. Do you think kids should need to learn cursive? Yes. Letter writing, with an actual pen and paper, is an art.

    5. When you go to the beach for the day, what do you take? 70+Sunscreen, sunglasses, beach towel, water bottle, bucket (to hold shells), hat (the bigger, the better – I’m a white white girl), music

    6. Which decade had the best music? Ditto Sarah. 80s all the way.

    7. Are you a good hand-shaker? Yes. My Achilles is the kiss. Is it one cheek or two and heaven help me in a three kiss culture. That one can be truly awkward.

    8. Do you have a go-to meal for when you are at a restaurant and you can’t decide? Kinda. Chic Parm at an Italian restaurant. A burger or French dip at sandwich type places. You usually can’t go wrong with a filet mignon. Chic pad Thai. Chic vindaloo. You get the idea.

    9. Do you have slippers? Yes. Though I prefer my old Birkenstocks.

    10. Are you easily grossed out? Nope. Unless you’re a snake.

Best decade for music: the past decade.

Mainstream pop music is dreadful and most albums are over-engineered (auto-tune, dynamic compression, I’m looking at you), but the explosion of the indie scene (fueled by the digital distribution) has given us more variety and depth of artists than ever before.

    1. Short, fairly straight hair so I’ve never used a flatiron. DON’T TAKE AWAY MY PEDICURE EVER!!
    2. Middle name is “Ellen” and it is what my Mother WANTED to name me. But, she buckled to family pressure and I was named after a great aunt (and her too). Twin’s middle name is “Eileen” and family did not want us to have cutesy twinny names. So, Frances is another great aunt!
    3. Don’t mind sneezing except after ANY surgery.
    4. Yes! Agree with both S&E, except that I find keyboarding FASTER and easier. After sitting in front of some kind of keyboard for nearly 40 years, my brain is *linked* to the keys!
    5. Same.
    6. Oh, the late 50s and 60s 😊
    7. Yes.
    8. Agree with Sarah.
    9. YES. Same as Sarah.
    10. Don’t mind blood, autopsies, etc. Agree TOTALLY with Eileen. HATE reptiles PERIOD!!

    1. Flat / curling irons…but I often cheap out and paint my own toes
    2. Not to my knowledge
    3. No, as it is often the result of allergies, so all of the tickling and itching is just a vicous cycle that begins and ends and begins again with a sneeze
    4. Absolutely
    5. Highest SPF available, lots of ice water, towel, sunglasses…then the rested ends on who I’m with (kid munchies and toys or adult treats)
    6. I don’t have strong opinion, much to the chagrin of my DH
    7. Yes. High-5’s are a problem, though, as everyone else seems to think mine hurt
    8. Same as Sarah
    9. No. inside Birkenstocks and outside Birkenstocks.
    10. No, not easily, but it is possible.
