[Fund]Raise the Titanic

[Fund]Raise the Titanic

By day, my friend Michael is something called a “change management consultant.” I don’t really know what this is, but he seems to make a living at it. By night, however, he’s a playwright, and a darn good one. I’ve pimped his shows here on Ye Olde Blogge several times in the past, and I am about to do so again, in large part because this latest play he’s working on, well… it’s kind of my fault.

Actually, the blame falls to my nephew D, who recently went through a phase of being obsessed with the Titanic. I was relating an anecdote about this to Michael and his wife, Julia, and mentioned that D had schooled some adult who didn’t realize 2012 was the 100th anniversary of the sinking of said ship. Julia noted to Michael that the anniversary would be the perfect time to re-mount a play he’d written years ago, called the “Cortical Titanic.”

Michael, never being one to miss a good idea that lands in his lap, has decided to do just that. The timing of our conversation and the proximity of the date of the sinking, however, did not allow enough time to pull together a full production. Instead, Michael decided to schedule the play for the fall and kick off his fundraising campaign for it on the anniversary instead.

Which is a long way of getting to the point of this:

There’s a huge party going on at Fort Fringe (home of DC’s Fringe Festival) this Saturday night – April 14, 2012. Join Michael, Julia, and a host of other folks for drinks, snacks, and selected scenes from the play. Tickets are only $20, which is a steal for food, alcohol, and supporting the arts. Michael will, of course, accept additional dough if you’re impressed with his work and desirous of becoming a benefactor. You can buy tickets here.

Full details – time, address, more scoop on the play itself  – are all available over on Michael’s website.

Hope to see you there! (Provided I can make it, of course. My schedule is a hot mess for Saturday, but I’m buying a ticket even if I end up not being able to go. So, if you get there and see that I am not, please drink my cocktail for me.)

I’m a Titanic fanatic – have my entire collection of memorabilia out on display in honor of the centennial. If anything should come of Cortical (wonder what that means?) keep me posted. I’d certainly be interested. Thinking now about the National Geographic Exhibition in DC – have you heard anything about it? It’s impossible to get to everything; there’s one in Mystic, CT too.

We can try. But it will not be easy.

How long does the exhibit run? And when will the show be in production?
