One day a little over a month ago I found a surprise waiting for me amidst the usual junk mail on my doorstep. My friends sprite and Rudi were on vacation in Iceland and had sent me a postcard from their trip. It totally made my day, this rare piece of “real” mail with a few words and a pretty picture of a geyser on it.
In combination with some work conversations and my friend Jenna’s plan to send 11 handwritten letters before her birthday on 11/11/11, I had something of an epiphany – postcards are awesomely fun to get, and super-easy to send. And thus an idea was born: every week in 2012, I am going to send someone a postcard. Some will be fun and travel-related, others will likely be a slice-of-life in DC, but all will be a way of reaching out and telling the people in my life I’m thinking of them.
And, as luck (or, ahem, procrastination) would have it, I started this off with a bang today by sending out Christmas New Year’s postcards to about 50 folks.
So, if you’re someone I know IRL, keep an eye on your mailbox this year… In among the electric bills and Penzey’s catalogs, there might be a card from me.
Awesome idea ! Hope I’m on your list 😉
I love how your Mom *hopes* she’s on your list! She better be! (Hi, Mom!)
I know, right?
