The final Saturday of the year seems as good a time as any to get back on track with posting three beautiful things from the past week, right? So, before I head off to join sprite and Rudi on their annual hide-from-the-New-Years-crowds movie extravaganza, here’s some beauty from the last seven days of 2011.
(Note: Since I already posted about the great Christmas my mom and I spent in New York City, I’m not including it here, though it totally counts.)
1. I spent much of Tuesday running errands in rainy, gross weather – right up until the end of the day, when I turned the corner in front of the supermarket and found a gorgeous sunset in front of me. And then I turned around and saw a huge rainbow on the other side of the sky. It was amazingly beautiful, the more so for being completely unexpected.
2. I was off from work this week and spent a fair bit of time purging things both physical and digital. I no longer own socks with holes, bags of mail waiting to be thrown out, several mostly-defunct email addresses, and a bunch of accounts on social websites I never use. It feels nice to be going into 2012 with a cleaner home and computer.
3. I met up for drinks last night with my old friend Siân, who I haven’t seen for probably 10 years, despite the fact that she moved from London to Northern Virginia 18 months ago. We reconnected like we’d seen each other just yesterday, and spent more than four hours catching up over beer and fish-n-chips. We parted with a resolution to get together more often in the new year.
What’s been beautiful in your world this week?
And, of course, Happy New Year! Wishing you all beauty in 2012.
