Surprising, Purging, and Reconnecting

Rainbow

The final Saturday of the year seems as good a time as any to get back on track with posting three beautiful things from the past week, right? So, before I head off to join sprite and Rudi on their annual hide-from-the-New-Years-crowds movie extravaganza, here’s some beauty from the last seven days of 2011.

(Note: Since I already posted about the great Christmas my mom and I spent in New York City, I’m not including it here, though it totally counts.)

1. I spent much of Tuesday running errands in rainy, gross weather – right up until the end of the day, when I turned the corner in front of the supermarket and found a gorgeous sunset in front of me. And then I turned around and saw a huge rainbow on the other side of the sky. It was amazingly beautiful, the more so for being completely unexpected.

2. I was off from work this week and spent a fair bit of time purging things both physical and digital. I no longer own socks with holes, bags of mail waiting to be thrown out, several mostly-defunct email addresses, and a bunch of accounts on social websites I never use. It feels nice to be going into 2012 with a cleaner home and computer.

3. I met up for drinks last night with my old friend Siân, who I haven’t seen for probably 10 years, despite the fact that she moved from London to Northern Virginia 18 months ago. We reconnected like we’d seen each other just yesterday, and spent more than four hours catching up over beer and fish-n-chips. We parted with a resolution to get together more often in the new year.

What’s been beautiful in your world this week?

And, of course, Happy New Year! Wishing you all beauty in 2012.

In spite of E&C’s disaster in Houston at September’s end, we Heff’s had a lot of good times this year –spring, summer, fall, winter …. Family, friends, acquaintenances, neighbors, unknowns — all coming together in support and love. Lots of good experiences, trips & visits too!! There is no thanks enough for all of that!!

My heartfelt wish for all is good health in 2012 — all the rest follows — as it is easy to be loved & happy if you feel good!! Soooo. FEEL GOOD!! Hugs, Mom/Mary

P.S. Beautiful in my world: OUR weekend in NYC (#1), face-time with Baby James, AND my long-time friend Sherry recovering WELL from a stroke!! Hmmmm. HAPPY NEW YEAR!

    For this week:
1, 2, 3. Thursday’s Christmas present…the whole family went to a WILD game, and it was an awesome game (yeah, the win was nice, too). From the youngest’s appearance on the Jumbotron (he was in rare form), getting a puck, the tunnel, being found by our favorite babysitter (without prior coordination in a crowd of over 19,000), the fights, the whooping and hollering and fist pumps, the ride home listening to the excitement of the sportscasters, and the inability to climb into bed until midnight from adrenaline (the whole family)…an AWESOME family night!
    4. I’ve read 5 books this week, and I’m on track to finish 2 more by Monday :). Middle has finished 3 books.
