Permanent Temporary Base Camp

Well we’ve taken the first big step forward. On Saturday we picked out a rent house in our neighborhood. It is exactly 4 blocks from our old house, so we’ll still be close by. The nursery is painted with elephants so it seems like it was meant for us! Rental appliances and furniture are being arranged so hopefully we can move in on Friday.

Still no word on the big questions – settlement on the house and contents, or what we’ll do (rebuild in part or in whole or sell the land and buy “new”). And no word on the contents that were pulled out for the “reclaiming” process.

In other news, James has gone from taking isolated single steps in the couple of days before his birthday to walking across rooms unassisted. I’m so sad to be so distracted right now. This is a big milestone – we’re so proud of the monkey. And a monkey he is…he’s also started climbing pretty much anything in his way or that seems a good idea! Oh, tooth #8 is here, and I think 9 & 10 are close – there is lots of drool & cranky happening here!

So that’s all the news that’s fit to print from here. We’ve finally slowed down enough to be exhausted and catch colds, etc.

    Hi Eileen,
I’m glad to hear that you are close to having a semi-permanent home again. I don’t know if you met my daughter, Gina, when you were here, but she and her family had a fire, too…not lightning…but it took a long time from beginning to the true end. I hope you have a complete and quick solution to your claim. James looks like a well loved and healthy boy unaffected by it all. Love to you and all the family,
    Cousin Bonnie
