Since yesterday’s post focused on my new, fairly fabulous hair, it seemed appropriate to make today’s Wayback Wednesday post one with what is arguably (only in that there are so. many. to choose from) my worst hairstyle ever – the poodle. I mean seriously, some kind of wedge cut with a perm? Who ever would have thought that was a good idea? Especially with my monstrously thick hair? Ugh.
Style choices aside, this photo captures a moment in what was – in my opinion – our best family vacation ever. It was our second trip out to see Mom’s siblings on the west coast, and one of our stops was Yosemite National Park. This particular photo is in front of El Capitan, one of the iconic natural features in the park. (One of many, given that Ansel Adams’ photography made quite a few of the park’s vistas immediately recognizable.) I was absolutely captivated by the beauty of it, so much so that I decided I wanted to be a park ranger so that someday I could live there all summer.
That, of course, never came to pass – largely because once I became friends with a few rangers and discovered the arduous career path one had to take to eventually land such plum assignments, I realized it wasn’t for me – but I have more vivid memories of that trip than of any I had taken before, and most since.
If I were a bucket list kind of gal, spending a large chunk of time living in Yosemite would be on it. I can’t imagine I would ever run out of fascinating things to look at or think about there.
