10 on Tuesday: Things I Do Every Day

My boss.
My boss.

This week’s 10  on Tuesday theme is  things we do every day, which makes me think of when Sarah and I lived together. I am a list person and I would have a daily to do list that would require a week, if not a month, to accomplish.  But I’d always put things like “shower” and “brush teeth” on my list. Sarah once asked me why, and the answer was simple. It’s always nice to have a list that you can – with certainty – cross a couple of things off of quickly. It makes you feel like you’ve accomplished something and motivates more productivity. Of course, these days those two are less assured than they used to be.  So here is a glimpse of the list of 10 things I do every day:

  1. Wake up on someone else’s time table
  2. Change dirty diapers
  3. Sing, dance, read in character, and generally make a fool of myself
  4. Laugh
  5. Chase
  6. Admonish and redirect (usually from pulling on some cord or another that cannot be hidden or buried effectively enough from James the sleuth-baby)
  7. Make and clean bottles
  8. Chop and dice food into manageable bits
  9. Clean food, milk, juice, and slobber up off the floor
  10. Give hugs and kisses and get giggles and slobber in return 🙂

That’s pretty much my day in a nut shell. And lest you think that is a list that is burdensome or complaining – it is not. It is simply my reality right now – and I love it, dirty diapers, slobber, bites, and pinches included. I love my job and I love my life!

Enjoy these days. They will be over before you’re ready for them to be. And seriously, can you think of a better way to spend your day than to be everything to someone so precious?

Good news Eileen: much of your list will not change for years!!!! For example, #2 Diapers may change to underwear, or else uniforms / jerseys / protective equipment, but the fact is that there seems to always be some form of excrement that needs attention. #5 may be needed to achieve #10. #6 will change from physical protection to character formation. Just think of this as your “base 10” and keep having fun! Yee-haw!
