Balance, Rainbow, and Tea & Cookies

Happy Saturday! Time to look back at three beautiful things from the past week:

1. At my lesson on Wednesday night I suddenly realize I can ice skate on one foot. It has taken weeks of trying and practicing, but my one-footed efforts are starting to look like glides, and not like picking one foot up and down quickly and haphazardly.

2. On Friday evening after a trying week and a long, gray day, I see a bit of a rainbow – one that disappears quickly back into a cloud – but it’s enough to cheer me into a better mood.

3. The National Book Festival, as always, was a great time, made better by first running into my friend Mary, and then sprite and Rudi a little while later, after Mary and her daughter had left. The three of us stayed until the very end, and then wandered up to a new French bakery (Paul Bakery ) to have tea and macarons – the delicious treats with which I am currently obsessed. Books, friends, and cookies make for about the best afternoon a girl could want.

What’s been beautiful in your world this week?

    1. Me to youngest: “Do you know how much I love you.”. Youngest: “Yes.” Me: “How do you know how much I love you?” Youngest (very matter-of-fact): ” Because God tells me.”
    2. Oldest comes into our bedroom after his shower to ask, “Mom, can we just talk? I really like just getting to talk with you.” Now, if you replace “bedroom” with my Mom’s “sewing room,” and replace “him” with me – I mean “her” – you’ll possibly appreciate how meaningful this was.
    3. Had a nice phone conversation with my sister! Susan, this does not obligate you to list our call 🙂

Sarah, may I use your blog to post a reminder about the upcoming beauty of this week? Althugh September is a big birthday month for the family (the new April), this is THE week of a-birthday-a-day, so party, party, party, and first party!

TBTs from Sterling: First, getting here safely once again is a bonus– the long drive, fraught this time with construction & traffic, does not get easier with age! On Saturday, PennDot was dealing with a rock slide atop a mountain north of WilkesBarre, the cascade probably caused by all the recent rain. Second, a FAB 5th birthday party today for Grandson G. He had 7 guests ranging in age from 3+ to 8. Mommy created an awesome “solar system” cake in keeping with the “planets theme” and all the games and activities kept her, Daddy, Auntie Sarah, and me hopping. And, third, most importantly, a wonderful family day.

And, in a couple of days, I fly off from here to Houston for E&C’s little James’ first birthday — already!! Gee, I love my new life 🙂

Oh, and to comment on Loon’s mention of BIRTHDAY MONTH!! 5 of 8 cousins this month (3 all in one week), 3 Grandpas all in this same week — one sharing a day with G — a Grandma DeeDee, and a very special friend of mine (also a Grandpa). Think I remembered them all. Needless to say, H A P P Y B I R T H D A Y everyone !!
