Starter, Safe, and Shoes

Despite what yesterday’s post might have suggested, my week was not, in fact, unrelenting awfulness. Here are three beautiful things that slipped through the gloom:

1. After a day of near constant downpours on Tuesday, the weather clears enough to get in six innings of baseball for the first post-surgery start of Nationals phenom Stephen Strasburg. Megan and I watch him pitch five scoreless innings before the bullpen (and the rain) dampen our enthusiasm for a night at the ballpark.

2. Despite the awful flooding around her, Mom made it through the flooding with nothing worse than a wet basement and a freaked out Shih Tzu.

3. Friday was dry enough to allow me to wear the new shoes I picked up while I was in Binghamton a few weeks back. It might be super-girly of me, but a cute pair of shoes does make me happy.

My new giraffe-print shoes. I thought they were leopard, but then, I think anything that's not clearly zebra or cow is leopard. Eileen set me straight.

What’s been beautiful in your world this week?

Alas, there are always good things. (1). Most importantly, in the grand scheme of my surroundings, I am blessed with minimal and fixable loss. I am becoming an *experienced* basement cleaner. As my sister said, “now that’s a skill you don’t see on too many resumes!” (2). The caring of neighbors for each is once again renewed in my “hood”. Another special blessing. (3). Doggie back to sleeping and cuddling. Two days of dry and sunshine has helped tremendously in so many ways.

And, I do LOVE the shoes!!! I’ll bet they attract a lot of glances 😉
