Sunday Snapshots: Rookie Camp Fan Fest

Yes, I know I mentioned going to the Caps Fan Fest yesterday – and even shared a photo – but there was so much going on that it warrants its own post, methinks. Sort of a photo essay, if you will… one that includes some of the most interesting bloopers my camera has produced in quite some time.

First things first when hitting the Fan Fest with kids: face painting!

over-the-top
Before the kids could go on the bouncies, Brian had to sign a waiver of liability. Just as he was grousing about how silly it was, D decided to go over the top of the barriers, rather than under them, as the rest of the kids did. Mmm hmm... maybe that's why there's a waiver.

And then it was time to play some ball hockey!
with-the-red-man
Not to be outdone by Vancouver's Green Men, the Caps apparently now have Red Men. The boys were more than a little skeptical at having their picture taken with a spandex-clad man (smart kids!) but they eventually gave in.

After the scrimmage, the ref gave G the game puck!

Now… here’s where it gets weird.

I have an app on my phone that will shoot three images in rapid succession, which comes in handy at things like hockey games – be it ball hockey or a rookie scrimmage. Well, apparently said app also has wacky filters, which I must have kept unwittingly activating, because more than half the photos I took (including nearly all of the scrimmage ones) are, essentially, print negatives. Huh. The ball hockey games look really cool, actually.

This actually may be my favorite photo of the day. It looks so cool!

And, at last, just to prove that we did watch some real hockey, here’s the best of my negative-photos of the scrimmage.

Oh, and in case you’re wondering why the boys are wearing orange at a Caps event, rather than rocking the red as is the custom, well… it makes them so. much. easier. to find in the crowd.

So funny…DH was playing with his filters at our Dev Camp intentionally (going for Wild green), and I was giving him grief to just take one shot – nothing fancy – so we could get back to watching the game! Granlund’s SO goal was a hoot to see in person (can view it & Lofquist’s goal on NHL.com, shamelss plug for our oft-overlooked team).

And another funny thing…some kids in our neighborhood bought Green Man suits and were darting through yards in them…our kids had the same reaction, and so did our houseful of guests. We’re going to see if they can be borrowed for Halloween….

** LOVE ** the photos, especially the blue ones. Really cool !!! And, the boys’ expressions sure do not mask their opinions of “spandex man”. Very funny! ( I cannot, however, imagine wearing that get-up in this heat. Yich :()

Does this mean that you only have the images in the cool man blue/negative format? That would be kindof a bummer but at the same time, they’re super hip. Of course, I’m jealous that you get all the cool auntie experiences and I just get to read about them 😦
