Today’s Wayback Wednesday comes with a tip of the hat to our dad, in honor of Father’s Day this coming Sunday.
This picture was taken as I was getting ready for my senior prom. (Let’s not discuss the hair, or even the dress for that matter.) When preparing for such fashion events growing up, one of Dad’s favorite questions was, “where is the rest of it?” This helps explain the lovely matching lace bolero jacket that came with my prom dress, which my father is lovingly helping me put on in the driveway before sending me off. If memory serves me, it was worn for approximately half a block, never to be seen nor heard from again.
I must confess I love this picture for many reasons, not the least of which is Dad is standing without assistance, with his pants pulled up to his belly button (one of his many fashion trade marks) wearing his Clark’s slippers and black trouser socks, even though he is wearing tan pants – not khaki’s but proper tan dress pants. And of course, he is wearing a sweater, even though prom is in June. To say that Dad was not fashion forward is an understatement, but I miss those sweaters and high water pants.
Just a reminder to all those reading whose dads are still with them, give them an extra squeeze this weekend. You never know which one might be your last. Happy Father’s Day Daddy. I love you and miss you more than you’ll ever know.
