Snatching Defeat?

Before I went away last Wednesday (more on that later), I was going to write a post about the fact that the Binghamton Senators were close to winning the Eastern Conference in the Calder Cup series (American Hockey League) and the Houston Aeros were up 3-0 in the Western Conference.  Given that the Caps ended my/our hockey season prematurely, and that I can actually get to an Aeros game without getting on a plane, this was exciting news – especially with the Binghamton connection.  Imagine my surprise when I realized, after my long weekend away, that tonight is Game 7 in the AHL Western Conference finals.  Why, oh why, do I associate in any way, shape, or form with teams that have such a proclivity for implosion of spectacular proportions?

If the Aeros manage to stave off humiliation tonight, there may be a hockey game in my future – before James and I head off to DC for my Mary Washington College reunion weekend. (Can it possibly be 15 years since I graduated from college?!) We have some good friends and fellow hockey enthusiasts here in Houston who would make great companions for a Calder Cup series game.  Check back tomorrow to see if the Aeros have rallied or humiliatingly choked for the 4th game in a row. (BTW, I’ll be rooting for Binghamton either way!)

UPDATE: Houston managed a win (4 to 3) so it is on to the Calder Cup finals.  Aeros v. Senators!

@CL – Seriously, if the Aeros were playing any other team (even the Bears) I’d show your team the love. But without hockey in Binghamton, we wouldn’t be the hockey fans we are today, so we have to root hometown.

I got my hockey start in Binghamton as well (still have a Broome County Dusters puck…is that why he asked me to marry him????), but I have a “new” hometown as well. I’m stickin’ with our home (farm) team!
