Wayback Wednesday: Right There With You

One of these cuties is turning 40 today. The other one is me.
One of these cuties is turning 40 today. The other one is me.

If there’s one photo genre that’s well-represented from my childhood, it’s the bath time picture. Though I have only this one, I know there are tons of others – my parents’ albums are full of them, as are those of my aunt and uncle, and I’m sure my siblings and cousins have one or two of their own as well. I can see why our parents took these – we appear to have been the sort of fat and cheerful babies that demand camera time.

I chose this picture for today because one of the cherubs in it – my cousin Susan – has a birthday today, one of those important, ends-in-zero birthdays… the one they call “the big four-oh.”  Lest it seem like a jerk move to call her out – with a naked baby photo no less – bear in mind two important facts: 1. I am the other naked baby and 2. I turn 40 exactly one month from today, so it’s not like I’m mocking her. I am now, as then, right there with her. (I will admit, though, that I have no idea how 40 got here so fast. Or what took it so long. Time is funny like that.)

So, happy birthday, Susan! I hope your day involves hugs and cake and all manner of goodness. You, my dear, deserve it.

Thanks!!!! I thought of you today…weren’t we just…say…25??? Today WAS filled with all sorts of birthday cheer. “Mom” started the day with a card…it came in yesterday’s mail, but I didn’t even look at the mail until this morning (thanks!!) and it continued throughout the school day where it was announced I was now the big 4-0. I lost count of the number of times I was sung to (including the nephews on the machine!)…and told cute little things like “Forty isn’t old if you’re a tree!” My favorite was the 23 year old teacher who honestly said “I NEVER would have guessed you were FORTY!” I LOVED she was surprised by the age…not so much love for how old you could tell she thought forty was! Love to all….
