Comfort Food x2, Good Friends x3, and Signs of Spring

As I’ve mentioned a couple of times, February has been kind of grueling – and this past week was no exception. It feels all the more important, then, to focus on a few positives to remind myself that it wasn’t all bad. And so, here are three beautiful things from the past week.

1. On the “fake Monday” – that is, the Tuesday after the holiday weekend – sprite pinged me mid-day about meeting up for dinner. We met up at a mutual favorite, Luna Grill, and caught up over grilled cheese sandwiches and tomato soup. Comfort food and excellent company made for a perfect ending for a long day.

2. Keeping on with the food-and-friends theme, Wednesday’s breakfast-for-dinner extravaganza (hot chocolate, blueberry pancakes, and bacon) with Alison and Lynn was similarly enjoyable, for the same reasons.

3. I saw crocuses for the first time on Saturday. I am so totally ready for spring, and nothing says it’s on its way like the return of flowers. In case they are not yet where you are, here’s a peek:

Yay! Crocuses!
Yay! Crocuses!

What’s been beautiful in your life this week?

What’s that green pokey stuff near the flowers?

February has not been kind here, either (for many reasons). So I am very appreciative of the reminder to focus on the bright spots! For me, each family member offered one up for the week:

    1. Due to a 2-for-1 deal, youngest started Tae Kwon Do (yes, there were hesitations about having brothers in the same class). They both SHINED. Got raves from teachers and parents. The youngest is in a size “00” uniform (the smallest made) and it’s rolled up at the pants and sleeves three times and the top still comes down to his knees…yet 2 minutes into his first class he was asked the name of his form and he raised his hand with confidence and got picked, and nailed it “Songham 5!” Guess he’s been paying attention to middle!
    2. Got to have the rare 1-on-1 with middle, who chose a sunny, single digit day for us to walk over the dam across the Mississippi. He was in snowclothes and boots, I didn’t even have a hat. We saw wildlife and “icebergs” and had a wonderful time exploring. We chased some birds and possibly got caught on a TV news story (if I find it I will send the link). We were the only show in town with mom & son chasing birds and pretending to fly, laughing, and getting to walk hand-in-hand on a winter afternoon, well, it was likely quite the backdrop for the reporter.
    3. Oldest had the hockey “game of his life” this morning! He made the plays, skated end-to-end, made checks without tripping or hooking, and got noticed positively by folks. He’s worked so hard this season that as it winds down it sure is cool to see how very far he has come.
    4. DH got the word from Bossman that he can come with us to TX!!!!!! Does that really need elaboration as a beautiful thing?

We started off the beautiful week with Amy, Ben, David, and Grandma and finished the week by reacquiring good naps & a solidnights sleep. In between we shared several good meals with friends. It’s been a great week. Hope yours was too!

    1) Arizona
    2) Texas
    3) Safely Home

    That’s a FANTASTIC Triple !!

We still have about a foot or so of snow on the ground. I so covet those crocuses.

This week sucks ass (sorry Mom)…got a nasty head cold and there is nothing beautiful about it. Sorry. I got nothing.

Oh wait! I saw The Lion King on Saturday. It was really great. Costumes and staging were unreal. From this theater student’s perspective, the storyline was so secondary to the scenery, staging, puppets, music, etc.
