New Baby, Lunch Plans, and Secret Santa

Before I head into another work week – albeit a short one (yippee!) – it’s time to take a look back at three beautiful things from the previous one. Except today there are four, given recent events in Ottawa.

1. The annual Christmas Cartoon Sing-Along Party went off without a hitch, and everyone (including me) had a good time. Our fun evening was capped off by a surprise visit from friends with their beautiful new baby son in tow.

2. Out of nowhere, Joanne calls and tells me she’s in my (office) neighborhood and wants to grab lunch. Good company and grilled cheese with tomato soup cheer up what is otherwise a cold and uninspiring day.

3. My brother calls to tell me that his Secret Santa gift at work was a really nice pair of Caps gloves – and that they will be just perfect to round out my Winter Classic ensemble. I was so touched by his excitement over sharing his gift with me.

4. And speaking of the Caps, they snapped their losing streak tonight and I am once again a happy hockey fan. C-A-P-S! Caps! Caps! Caps!

I miss Luna. We’ll have to go there for lunch someday next week. πŸ™‚ and what a lovely list!

    My list
    1. Christmas #1 at Chris’s parents house with his sister and s.o. was a lovely day.
    2. I finally got to decorating and really outdid myself I think. I love love love this season (and especially w/travel will likely keep it around til mid January πŸ™‚
    3. Christmas #2 at our house with Chris’s parents and Grandma, aka James first at home Christmas, which I’m sad to say he slept thru. They had to sneak in to his room and blow him kisses in his crib. Let’s just say he’s going to enjoy these toys and we had another beautiful day. And bonus…
    4. I scored a gift for me – a le creuset 7qt Dutch oven for half (or less) of it’s retail price! It’s so pretty πŸ™‚ I can’t wait to use it!

Lots of beautiful things — not sure I can keep it to three!
1). All the holiday lights and decorations in the neighborhood raises spirits and sure brightens up a mostly sunless landscape.
2). Lunch with two friends I’d not had a chance to visit with in a long time.
3). Seeing my former officemates at the holiday party & having oh so much fun verbally deflecting the flattering offers to return. No chance!! πŸ™‚
4). A handwritten letter from my 8 year old (great!) nephew who just learned cursive! Too cute. I am honored!
5). Receiving all the holiday cards & photos. Love going to the mailbox.
6). And — lastly — a week of anticipating THIS week — seeing all my family gathering together to celebrate the new beginning once again, which is CHRISTMAS. A happy one to all !!!

    1. Snow. Love it (before Christmas). Still like it in February. Ready to be done in March, though. Toboggan run of the back deck is a hit, complete with slick ramp, drop, and jump. Looking at how to make it go over the back fence. Warm gingerbread when we got done was just perfect.
    2. Finished PJ’s!!!!
    3. Went to an evening service, and when the Pastor got to the part about “So do you want to make a commitment today and ask Christ into your life?” the church was completely silent, except for youngest, who I guess thought he was being addressed directly and blurted out “SURE!” in his distinct, not-so-church voice from the middle/back of the congregation. Everyone in the vicinity tried, but failed, to contain themselves.

Hey, I made the TBB! How flattering!

    My TBB:

    1) Christmas prep: its all done but the wrapping! WOO HOO!

    2) Sophia read a book this morning in the kitchen while I made her lunch! So amazing!

    3) My boss bought the entire office lunch last Friday at our office Christmas lunch. That was very nice of him.

    1. Neighborhood Christmas caroling…the younger sing to the older. We planned on a just a few ‘must-sing-to’ and ended up going to 15 houses spreadinga little Christmas cheer. πŸ™‚

    2. The party after the caroling is always a blast to catch up with neighbors that I don’t see as often now that our kids aren’t all playing in the backyard together every day.

    3. #1, #2, #3, #10, and half of #4 got done off my list from Sarah the other day. Still working on the rest, but I’m catching up…a bit!
