My 500 Pixels of Hockey Fame (Sorta)

A week or so ago, I received the following email from my brother:*

go to caps site…click on kids club and scroll down to the “kids club day pictures” take a look at number 11 out of 22…….

So I did, and oh, look… there’s me in a photo I would caption “Undercaffeinated aunt is overwhelmed at Caps Kids Club event.”

Two of them, one of me. (Click to embiggen.)
Two of them, one of me. (Click to embiggen.)

Those of you who know me outside the pixelworld may have recognized the older of my two nephews escaping out the left side of the frame (he’s the one with the Ovechkin shirt and glowing sneakers). What’s not visible is the younger nephew – screened by two bigger kids – making a run at the snack table.  No, I did not know this photo was taken, but I do remember that oh-shit-which-one-of-them-do-I-grab-first moment. There are no words for how, um, thrilled I am to have my moment of auntie incompetency displayed so publicly.

On the bright side, I’m just really glad it’s not a photo from this day.

Oh, and how about that inflatable chair in the sidebar? Makes me wish I had a basement sports den…

* This is the message in its entirety, and is in fact fairly long by Brian’s emailing standards. He’s a man of few words, but much punctuation.

    She’s alive 🙂

Good news is, without the accompanying detail, no one would know anything of your “moment of auntie incompetency.” You look like an adult looking left at a kid walking out of the picture.

And thanks for the Christmas idea…now I know what to get you!

Incompetency???? Are you kidding me? That’s more typical than you realize! Cut yourself some slack, pllleeeeease! Go to any place or event with a kid crowd, and you will see DOZENS of undercaffeinated adults (perhaps the only tragedy in this picture). And if, by some very remote chance, your nephews were conspiring (consciously or not) to paint you in a less-than-flattering light, any other adult in the vicinity was thinking “I’m so glad that it is her turn in the barrel and not mine!”

Thanks for checking in Sarah! Hope you have a great weekend!

You’re the only adult in the picture LOOKING at a kid. You deserve kudos! 🙂

And thanks Sarah. Eileen’s picture was making me shudder…

FAR from “incompetent” — you ARE in the same picture frame with both of them!! I have found time & time again — and reminded with the new generation — that kids do not wait for the caffeinating process to happen 🙂
