Two teenage diner waitresses working on a crossword puzzle at the counter:
Waitress 1: Who was John Lennon in love with?
Waitress 2: Loco Ono… No… Yoko Ono. Y-O-K-O-O-N-O.
Waitress 2: Uh, ok.
Waitress 1: How do you not know that? It’s only like the greatest love story of all time.
Seriously, between “Loco Ono” and “like the greatest love story of all time” I almost choked on my pancakes.
ROFL!
Yoko was loco (still is, though she’s mellowed with age).
And I think that John & Yoko were more of a lust story than a love story – at least until Sean was born. I think that grounded both of them quite a bit, and resulted in some great songs after his “househusband” period ended.
Classic.
I miss my hometown…
I always get great Twitter or blog moments, just by listening.
As for Loco Ono: I always found her to be highly calculating: getting Lennon into that art gallery, playing the naif when she was anything but, and she always kept money nearby or landing in it–hardly the creative “I live on my art, cloud vapors and grapefruit essence.” “Say yes to a nail.” Lennon walked into that tar baby like the village chelm.
It’s odd how Lennon had a truly sadistic bent toward just about anyone in his life (former wife, child, band members,) but this…passivity in the face of a true Dominatrix.
