I’m having a lazy Saturday morning (well, afternoon, now) so I have the time to contemplate some beautiful things from the past week.
1. As I come out of the Metro station on Monday night, I’m initially stunned by how warm it still is. Then I notice that the air is heavy with the smell of flowers. It smells like summer in the country, rather than springtime in the city.
2. After several days of extraordinarily hot weather, Friday dawned pleasantly cool, and with an interesting gray, diffuse light that made all of the leaves and grass that had exploded out during the heat wave look intensely, shockingly green.
3. There are those who say that Facebook is impersonal, but there’s nothing as cheering on a birthday as logging on every few hours to find another couple dozen “Happy Birthday!” posts on my page. I particularly love that greetings come from all periods of my life – people I’ve known since kindergarten all the way through to the friends I just made on my trip to Egypt at the start of the year, and everything in between.
And a bonus one that’s happening as I write this: someone outside (perhaps my landlord?) has just mowed their lawn, and the gorgeous scent of fresh-cut grass has filled my apartment.
What’s been beautiful in your life this week?
