This might sound strange, coming from someone who works in historic preservation, but I am, for the most part, not an especially nostalgic person – at least when it comes to my own life. I don’t spend a lot of time looking back or wishing for a do-over. I maintain relationships from the past, but overall, spend most of my time looking forward.
Every now and again, though, something will happen that makes me wistful for time long gone, and today was just such a day. The past week was exceedingly stressful at the office, and this afternoon, I found myself thinking back on the times when a hectic work day was nothing more than a busy dinner shift at Garcia’s, something I could easily wash away with my girlfriends the two-for-one ladies’ night special at the Omni, or with “a pitcher and a straw” at Eamonn’s.
I know that the stories of those times are best left to those of us who were there back then, and this blog is not the place to rehash bygone days. But for those of you who were with me then – and you know who you are – I want you to know I thought of you today and it made my bad week better, instantly.
