On a Roll

I got to do something I never expected I would this Memorial Day weekend: I rode in Rolling Thunder on Sunday.

Now, I had planned to go for a motorcycle ride over the weekend when my friend Steve (Sionna’s husband) was in town with his bike group for Rolling Thunder, but we had expected to get together on Saturday. Circumstances, however, intervened and he spent most of Saturday at the shop with one of his friends while her bike was getting repaired. And so, I ended up getting to ride along on Sunday.

It was quite an experience. Rolling Thunder was started as an event to draw attention to the prisoners of war and missing in action that never returned from Vietnam, and today it still serves that purpose along with highlighting the current needs of veterans. So, for all of the biker-culture bravado, it is, at its core, a very solemn event. There were people who were clearly vets (as well as active soldiers) along the route, and they seemed genuinely touched by the show of support.

SO TOTALLY C O O L !!! What a neat experience. Seeing and being in that throng of support must just have given you shivers — it does me just to watch it. 🙂 Saying “thank you” to our Vets is just NOT ENOUGH!

Ditto! Never had a chance to do THAT, and would love that opportunity!

Sarah as biker chick…I like it 🙂 But most biker chicks I see aren’t goofy grinning.

    Haha…yeah, Susie is a badass alright. But she’s a good egg. 😉

It’s an awesome experience to ride with that many bikes, but even more impressive on this type of ride that has such symbolism and reverence.

Steve got home around 9:30 last night. He is as brown as a berry. Looks like he spent a week in the tropics, not DC, haha.
