I love the outcome of daylight savings time’s spring forward, but dang, the first work morning after the change is rough. I’m tired and late for work,* but the stress of it is mitigated by the fact that the weather is nothing short of outstanding — sunny, blue sky, temperature already in the upper 50s, en route to about 70. Given that I woke to 6″ of snow last Monday, it honestly feels like a miracle.
All of this is a long preamble to my list of three beautiful things from the past week. Given that I spent most of it sick, the lovely turn outdoors is responsible for a lot of the beauty I saw.
1. My friend Michael was one of the winners of DC’s Emerging Playwright’s Competition, so a bunch of us gathered at the beautiful Lincoln Theatre on Thursday night to watch his short play “Maybe,” along with the other winning submissions.
2. On Saturday, we had a family cookout at my brother and sister-in-law’s house with our cousins from Pennsylvania. We had a perfectly lovely day catching up, hanging out, and eating fresh-off-the-grill burgers on an unseasonably beautiful spring day.
3. I spent more time lounging around outdoors on Sunday, when my friends Raj & Heather resurrected our long-dormant Sunday dinners with a BYO meat barbecue — fun and delicious!
* Clearly, despite going up after 9:00 p.m., I did start writing this post on my way to work this morning.
