At Last, Unexpected Smooch, and Warm Weather

It’s Monday again, and — as always — I’m wondering how the weekend went by so fast. I’m pretty sure that, this time, it has something to do with turning a big part of it over to a highly-energetic five-year-old. We had a great time, though, and being the cool, fun auntie is worth the resulting exhaustion.

Here are three beautiful things from the past week:

1. My friends Erin and Paul, whose adoption story I shared last year, finally learned that a birth mother had chosen them, and welcomed a daughter into their family near the end of January. I heard from Erin this week that the initial waiting period had just finished without incident — so the first major hurdle is out of the way. Needless to say, Mom, Dad, and big brother are all over the moon, and entirely besotted by the new arrival.

2. One of the hokey things they do to fill tv time-outs at the Capitals games is the “kiss cam,” wherein people are supposed to kiss when the jumbotron camera lands on them. After watching this at our game on Saturday night, my nephew leaned up and planted a big smooch on my cheek. So sweet!

3. In a week that included a morning that was 14 degrees (with windchill making it feel like a mere one degree), I found the  sunny, blue-skied weekend with temperatures in the upper 50s amazingly beautiful.
