Though it’s day three of a four-day weekend here in DC, I realize it is, in fact, Monday — and therefore time to look back on three beautiful things from the past week:
1. On Wednesday, I noticed that my ancient cable modem had finally quit working, so on Thursday, I picked up a new one and set it up, only to discover that I needed to call the cable company to have it activated. Much to my utter astonishment, the person I spoke to was polite, friendly and — above all — helpful. It was a completely different experience than I had ever previously had with my cable company. I was actually smiling when it was over.
2. I went to a friend’s birthday party on Saturday night, and, since she and her husband are the parents of three toddlers, it was a very kid-friendly party. One little boy arrived wearing a mask of the Incredible Hulk, which he left on the entire evening. It was hilariously cute — especially combined with his Mr. Rogers-esque sweater.
3. I am so glad I was able to be part of the “We Are One” concert on the Mall on Sunday. Singing along to “This Land is Your Land” and “America the Beautiful” with hundreds of thousands of others was an absolutely wonderful moment, and one that I will always be glad I braved the cold to experience.
