My DC: Hello, Cupcake!

The neighborhood where I work, Dupont Circle, is chock-full of all kinds of food. There are myriad fast food lunch options (burrito joints galore, Cosi, Five Guys, Julia’s Empanadas, among many others), plenty of tasty higher-end and/or ethnic restaurants (Tabard Inn, Bistrot du Coin, and Regent Thai come to mind), a ton of bars and coffee shops (including four Starbucks — or maybe six, depending on where you draw the borders) and the best damned diner anywhere (Luna Grill). What we didn’t have, though, was a cupcake bakery — and DC is a town that has a passion for cupcakes.

Just over a week ago Hello, Cupcake opened at last and filled that gap. For the first several days, the line was too long to bother giving it a try — I’m willing to pay $3 for a cupcake, but not to stand in line for an hour (a girl’s gotta draw the line somewhere). Thursday was a little rainy and gloomy, which kept the line down, so I made my move — and even documented it!

I’m happy to report that the cupcakes are pretty darned tasty. Perhaps a bit more frosting than I really like, but my co-workers think I’m crazy on that front.

Mmm, cupcakes!

Yummmmm. My mouth is watering 🙂 Aren’t we lucky to live in the land where every whim is fulfilled by somebody!

Does this have anything to do with the consideration of “atomic cupcake?”

@ CL – Other than betraying my general fondness for all things cupcake, I don’t think so!

I still think it’s dumb. But thanks for the link! That post is now my #2 of all time!
