Wednesday Random Ten, Kinda

I noticed the other day that my one-year anniversary of using Last.fm was coming up today. As I noted back in May, when I used it for a Wednesday Random Ten, Last.fm is a social music site that tracks what you listen to, makes recommendations, allows you to hear bands/artists similar to those you like, and also allows you to collect friends — even calculating how similar your music tastes are.

According to my Last.fm profile, I’ve listened to 7,476 tracks since joining a year ago today. I know I’ve actually listened to a whole lot more; in the beginning, I had a lot of problems with getting my iPod to scrobble (their word for the process of synchronizing the ‘pod to their service) and they didn’t add iPhone support until recently, so all those plays are lost forever.

Rather than my usual random ten — which I realize I haven’t done in quite a while — I thought I’d share what Last.fm has calculated as my “top ten” lists over the past year. The number following the artist, album, and track name is the number of times played.

Why is the world in love again?
Why are we marching hand in hand?
Why are the ocean levels rising up?

Isn’t the next part harder to put into writing, Dan?

    It’s a brand-new record for 1990.
They Might Be Giants’ brand-new album…
    Flood!

1990. Yeesh. Maybe we need to have a 20th anniversary party in a couple of years.

Seriously, though, that album is 100% my happy place. I cannot be in a bad mood when I listen to it — it’s an instant cheering-up for me. You have my eternal thanks for bringing it to my attention. 🙂
