My DC: Under the Silver Tree

I know I’m a couple of days late with this week’s My DC, but I knew exactly what I wanted to photograph, which didn’t take place until Friday night. From May through October, the Sculpture Garden at the National Gallery of Art has a free jazz program on Friday evenings — just in time for happy hour. I am a huge fan of this and have been going pretty regularly for the last several years. I know nothing about jazz, really, but picnicking with wine and cheese? That is something within my area of expertise.

We always sit in about the same place — near the George Rickey sculpture, which we call “the silver tree.” (According to the NGA website, it’s actually called “Cluster of Four Cubes.”) When there is a breeze, the cubes slowly move, which is both beautiful and soothing to watch.

Looks like fun and what a nice way to launch a beautiful holiday weekend! Your liking of jazz is a Dad gene — he was a knowledgeable jazz fan — me — I just like the sound once in a while. The swaying sculpture is funky/neat 🙂
