On a Time Out

Last year when I was in physical therapy for my sciatica, one of the recommendations the therapist gave me was to get an exercise ball to use as a chair at work. It isn’t really possible to slouch while sitting on a ball, and since I spend a lot of time hunched over the computer, it seemed like a worthwhile thing to try. I’ve been alternating between it and my regular office chair for a while now, and I do think it helps, because my back has been bothering me less.

Yesterday, though, it caused a bit of a problem. When I was rolling my regular chair out of the way, it got stuck on what I initially thought was the floor mat, so I just kinda shoved it hard — but it still wouldn’t really move. When I looked, I discovered it was actually because the LAN cable for my computer was wrapped around the leg. Uh oh. I unwrapped the cord and moved the chair, but the damage was done; the wall socket was a little bit broken. So today, here’s where I’ve been sitting:

On a Time Out

This is the lobby of the communications office. I kinda feel like I am on a time out, being punished for breaking the outlet by being forced away from all my things. The one difference is that, unlike a time out, everyone keeps talking to me because the ball is fascinating. Absolutely fascinating. I had no idea…

You’re lucky — most kids don’t get to take a ball with them for time out!! I like the yellow too — someone here at our office had one in black — dull! But, nevertheless, it too was a converation piece.

    Son #1’s comment: “It’s a Packers color!”
He also noticed the coffee and asked if it was a Caribou (my guess is Starbucks).

A “time-out” with adult conversation, a daytime beverage, and a computer screen…PLUS the bonus workout – typically I would not be paid for such an experience, instead I would pay for it (I believe the term is “babysitter?”). You brute! I wanna break an outlet, too!

@ Common Loon — actually, it’s neither. I only go to S’bucks when they have gingerbread lattes in season, and Caribou isn’t especially close to my office. I generally go to a local joint called Lawson’s, but their coffee just isn’t that good, so some days (like today) I splurge and go to Cosi.

Dwight Schrute has an exercise ball as a chair too!

I don’t watch “The Office,” but I am pretty sure that isn’t a favorable comparison.
