My Houston: Home

As Sweetpea mentioned, Chris and I bought our first home two weeks ago.

We are so excited (and a bit daunted)!! Who knew picking paint colors could be so hard? It is quite a bit larger than what we were looking for, but bonus space is great! And, it really was meant for us, as it meets all the “east coast criteria” — it is a two story, with sidewalks, where you can walk to the grocery store — that is truly rare in Houston. And with four bedrooms, we have some work to do 😉 Seriously, there is plenty of room for company (we already have reservations for 6 mid-April so we have to get some serious work done between now and then).

This is going to be fun. Will keep you all updated as we make progress, likely with before and after.

Did I mention that we have a futon and chair to decorate with? Well that was until we decided to see if the oh so cute furniture that we saw in the house we didn’t buy was for sale. Chris loved the sofa, so we called to ask. And it was for sale. So we went to look…and wound up buying a sofa, chair, and dining room set (an additional chair was thrown in for good measure). I’m told the cool 60s vibe furniture is properly called “mid-century modern.” It’s not quite what I imagined when decorating in my mind, but its cool and it will work for now. Here are some snaps of the new stuff, which will likely reside in the living room for now.

For stuff that is probably 40 years old, it is in impeccable shape.

Okay, more later on the house. If you have any ideas, send ’em on (although we have already learned that blues and greens are difficult!)

I totally dig the new furniture…especially the dining room set! It’s so very Martha Stewart – I love love love it.

Have you tried napping on the couch yet? I’m afraid it doesn’t look like it lends itself to that activity…but it does look very chic!

Whatever made you ask if it was all for sale? I never would have thought to do that.

Congratulations…and have fun filling all those empty bedrooms 😉

Don’t paint red….we painted our dining room deep red, which looks really nice, but WOW. It took more than a few coats. It’s probably the toughest color to paint with.

Other than that….what a cute house! I love it! You could really pick it up and put it on the east coast.

hey, Shannon, so did we! And yes, it took many coats. But it looks fabulous, and I love it!

Snappy, buy Olympic paint. Its all Zero-VOCs. Much better for you and any future occupants of the house.

It looks like a really great house. Congrats!
