Hello, Facebook

A few weeks back, WordPress (the company that hosts this blog — and 1.3 million others) announced that they were offering a plug-in for Facebook designed to easily allow users to offer their blogs in both places. As I have mentioned in the past, I have mixed feelings about the ways the Internet breaks down the walls between public and private, so it has taken me a while to decide whether or not to use this new service.

It’s finally dawned on me, though, that including the blog on my Facebook page makes a lot of sense, since the goal of this blog has always been to keep in touch with friends and family — which is also the goal of Facebook. And while I came to Facebook for work purposes, I am liking it more than I expected. Much to my surprise, it has allowed me to re-connect with a few people I haven’t seen/spoken to in ages, which has been fun. And it has a bunch of nifty plug-ins that lets the software I already have add things to my page, like using Picasa to upload my existing photo albums.

So, having lost track of the downside, I’m off to load the plug-in…

    That’s pretty cool.

I didn’t really understand the need for both my blog and Facebook either. But I’ve found myself getting sucked into Facebook anyway and it’s helped me reconnect with some old friends too.

Hopefully there will be a similar connection Blogger (which hosts my blog).
