I had an email this morning about the goofy name of the blog, so I thought I’d explain how a no-nonsense girl like me ended up with such a sappy-sounding blog name.
It’s my dad’s fault.
Seriously: his nickname for me was Sweetpea, and obviously, I’ve been thinking about him a lot lately. To be honest, his death is one of the reasons I decided to start this in the first place. I thought it would force me to start seeing things outside my own grief, and so far it seems to be working.
(The stuff about needing to learn stuff for work and wanting to keep in better touch with friends/family is also true. I think the Dad thing is more of “why now?” rather than “why?” if that makes sense.)
As for the “Garden” part of the name, it just seemed to work because a) the sweetpea is a flower and thus grows in gardens, b) I like gardening and will probably write about it sometimes, and c) the only other thing I could think of was “Sweetpea’s Pod” and that sounds even sillier.
