With the reality of an NHL lockout looming ever closer, I can only assume the Washington Nationals are playing such great baseball with the intention of filling the Caps-shaped holes in DC-area sports fans hearts (and schedules) this fall. There are, of course, many games still to be played and nothing is a given, but they’ve clinched their first winning season since dinosaurs roamed the earth – so things are looking promising.
And today, the Baltimore Orioles slipped past the Yankees to take a tenuous hold of the AL East, leading to a few hyperbolic tweets about how totally awesome it would be to have a Battle of the Beltways World Series. It would be, but seriously? So many things would have to happen just so for that to happen that… well, I have greater confidence that the NHL and the Players Association will come to an agreement by their deadline a week from Saturday.
Which is to say, no confidence whatsoever.
Anyway, here’s a picture from Sunday’s win over the Cardinals. Not bad, I don’t think, given that it was taken from section 227.

You realize you’re dooming them to getting washed out in the first round of the playoffs, right?
Oh, I don’t think so – I used as much anti-jinx language as I possibly could!
