As of today, I have been blogging for five years – and for the first time since my very first blogiversary, I am noting it on the correct date. (Yay, post-a-day plan for forcing me to be timely!)
Looking back at my past posts on this topic, I tend to blather on about how I can’t believe I’ve been at this for so long now, blah blah blah, so I’ll skip that this time and just jump to the stats and highlights I share every year.

In the past year, six posts made it into the DC Blogs daily round-up: To “Purposely Feel Melancholy” (written by Eileen); Sunday Snapshots: Before and After-ish; Home Alone; What’s Cooking: Orzo, Chickpeas, and Spinach; Time to Start Lying About My Age; and Wayback Wednesday: Living by the Crack Park. I also got linked from the Japers’ Rink daily Caps clips twice, for Ride of a Lifetime and A Girl in Red, Feeling Blue. (As someone who is not, but kinda wishes I could be, a sports blogger, it was pretty exciting to be included there.)
Far and away, however, the most amazing thing to happen here on the blog was when my post Summer Days, Driftin’ Away… was included – in the very first slot – on the WordPress “Freshly Pressed” page for three days. (Apparently, the best time to be highlighted is Friday morning, because you stay up all weekend!) As noted in the numbers above, being featured on what is, essentially, the WordPress home page made for many thousands more views for that post than any other I have written. Or likely ever will write.
So, all that remains is to say thank you to all of you who come here and read this, click the like button, and leave comments. I know most of you are either relatives or close friends and therefore feel obligated to keep reading, which I appreciate greatly. Those of you I don’t actually know outside the pixel world, I don’t know what makes you keep coming back, but I am so totally grateful that you do. Thanks, hugs, and virtual cupcakes for all of you!
